Peter Kenney

Peter KenneyPeter Kenney is a Partner in the firm and specializes in Probate Law, Wills and Trust Law.

Peter Kenney began his legal career at Archer, Kenney and Wilson, rising to Partner in 1987. In his earlier days as a lawyer he spent most of his time working in the areas of Divorce Law and Criminal Defense. Over time, he added the fields of Real Estate practice, Personal Injury and General Litigation to the range of cases he handled.

Currently his time is devoted to Estate Planning, Elder Law, and Real Estate matters. This type of practice requires a familiarity with the probate courts, and he is most often in the Wayne County Probate Court, handling probate matters such as Decedent’s Estates and Guardianships.

As a field of practice, Estate Planning includes consulting with clients and giving advice on Revocable Trusts, as well as drafting simple, or more complex Wills. Many of his new clients inquire about more specialized trusts. One example is the Special Needs Trust, which allows for management of financial wealth for the benefit of family members who have special needs. These individuals are often dependent on government benefits to assist them in maintaining an adequate standard of living.

Estate planning is important and everyone should have a simple Will, at a minimum. For some people, a trust, such as a revocable living trust agreement, is more attractive because of the efficiency it offers to the family, both during lifetime of the trust grantor, and also later on, when the estate must be settled
