James Ayres

Besides having spent many years in the practice of Divorce and Criminal Law, James Ayres is a former Police Officer, and an instructor. He has taught law classes in the undergraduate program at the University of Detroit and also at Wayne State University.

As a former law enforcement officer and current criminal defense specialist advocating for the rights of individuals coming into contact with the police, his insight into law enforcement policy and procedure add to his skill as a practicing attorney. When appearing in court on his client’s behalf, he is known for his effective legal writing and his considerable skill in oral argument.

As a young attorney, Mr. Ayres developed a back ground in Personal Injury and Product/Manufacturer Liability cases. Early on his area of practice expanded, adding various Criminal Defense cases such as Narcotics Forfeiture actions, OUI/DWI allegations, felony charges as well as District Court trials.

At Archer, Kenney and Wilson, he represents clients in Child Support matters, Alimony disputes, and in Divorce cases. He accepts cases in the criminal courts, most often the District Courts of Wayne County and Oakland County. His knowledge of police procedures and practices gives him the advantage of understanding both the police and the defendant point of view in traffic cases and other criminal matters. He also handles General Civil cases and Landlord Tenant matters.

James Ayres is also a Viet Nam Veteran.
